Fluffy Agege Bread

Fluffy Agege Bread

Yes, Agege bread! That’s our main ingredient for today.

It was a Sunday night after house fellowship, I had forgotten to buy un-sliced bread earlier and the only bakery in my area had run out. I was determined to make grilled Cheese sandwich come Monday morning for my hubby, so in my distraught state I looked around and saw this odd woman selling Agege bread under a tree (might have been a large umbrella but tree makes her sound more mysterious :-)).

So I approached her wondering if I could possibly use bromate rich bread in a recipe, the aroma cleared all my doubts. The bread was so fresh it bounced in my hand. I didn’t allow the old woman bag it for me for me for fear that she might squeeze it and distort its shape (as if she wasn’t the one that arranged it on the tray). l skipped all the way home happy with my treasure :-), please enjoy what I did with it.

Wickedly soft large Agege bread

2 sliced of Ham meatloaf ( bought in ShopRite)

8 slices of cheese ( bought in Shoprite)

1 teaspoon oil

Cameroon pepper

1 small onion

Cut 4 thick sliced out of the Agege bread

In a non-stick pan, lightly fry the ham with 1/2 a teaspoon of oil until golden brown, then set aside.

Apply mayonnaise on one side of each of the slices.

Then put 2 slices of cheese on the mayonnaise just like I did in the picture.

Next goes your ham and a pinch of Cameroon pepper.

Add the sliced onions.

Place 2 slices of cheese on the onion slices.

Place a slice of bread- the mayonnaise side, on the layers of cheese and ham, then butter both sides of the bread that will be grilled on the pan.

In a non-stick frying pan, fry both sides of the bread on low heat, till the cheese melts and the bread turns golden brown. Please don’t use oil, the butter on the outsides of the bread takes care of that.

Caution: Grilled cheese sandwich is a comfort food, so please make sure you can sleep for at least 2 hours after eating it! 😀

Recommended for when you are on leave, have a quiet Saturday or after church on Sunday 🙂

Azu 🙂
